poem/ my tears

are what make me capable
I have to believe my tears
like the oceans, enclose every
hard steady place
and cradle the tempests
swirling above
I have to believe my tears
which gather in my broken heart
are released as the love I wish to
be part of
I have to believe my tears
are more than just a question
I have to believe my tears
is the liquid of life
across the great universe
I have to believe my tears
remember to forgive me
for slandering the truth
I desperately crave
I have to believe my tears
show me how to be a man
I have to believe my tears
allow me to live in this world
I have to believe that my tears
stir me to be in service
I have to believe my tears
assume the shape of kindness
this world so desperately needs
I have to believe my tears
will help ease all of the pain
that clings to me
I have to believe my tears
allow me to look at myself
the first time,
like the last
I have to believe my tears
will let me see
I have to believe my tears
are more than just the wet whispers
of possibility
I have to believe my tears
speak the grace of being
human
I have to believe
